While we were in Benin for the burial ceremony of the late Archbishop Augustine Obiora Akubeze, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, unexpectedly met Mr. Frank, one of his former classmates at Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha. The moment they saw each other, they embraced warmly, a beautiful reunion of old schoolmates.
Later, I overheard Mr. Frank discussing Peter Obi with some of their colleagues where the Knights were seated. What caught my attention was the way he described the man they had known since their secondary school days.
He said, “Peter Obi is an enigma.”
According to him, even as a young secondary-school student, Peter Obi already had an entrepreneurial spirit. He recalled how Obi would travel to Lagos, buy clothes, including second-hand clothes popularly known as Okrika, bring them back and engage in business. He also spoke about how Peter Obi cared for his friends and classmates, including taking them to his family home behind the school to eat.
I found the story fascinating because this was coming from someone who actually knew and schooled with him long before politics, governorship or national prominence.

So I asked Mr. Frank: “Does this mean there is no mistake when I call PO a wealth creator?”
His answer was simple: “Exactly.”
