On Thursday, I witnessed something that reminded me why I hold His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi in such high regard.
After receiving him at the airport, I accompanied him to Agulu for a service of songs. Along the journey, he began praising Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the road we were travelling on.
He acknowledged that he had not constructed that road during his own administration and commended Soludo for doing it.
Given the criticisms directed at him by Soludo, some people might have expected bitterness. What I witnessed was appreciation.
When I described the road as substandard and mentioned the patching, Peter Obi cautioned me. He disagreed with my assessment and encouraged me to acknowledge the work the governor had done.
I immediately apologised and acknowledged his point.
Soludo was not in that vehicle. This was a private conversation, without cameras or an audience to impress.
That moment spoke volumes to me. Peter Obi could recognise another person’s contribution without allowing political differences to cloud his judgment. He also corrected someone close to him when he felt the criticism was unfair.
I am sharing what I personally witnessed because character matters. Humility matters. Fairness matters. A leader’s ability to give credit to others matters.
My confidence in Peter Obi goes beyond the privilege of working closely with him. It comes from moments like this, when his actions reveal the humanity behind his public image.
Governor Soludo, I respectfully appeal to you: focus on serving Anambra and allow political differences to remain respectful. On this journey, Peter Obi spoke appreciatively of your work and encouraged me to do the same.
As we look towards 2027, I believe Nigeria needs the humility, fairness and commitment to service that I witnessed in Peter Obi.
A New Nigeria is POssible
